Video tutorials for Collage

by in , , 0

Some new video tutorials for Collage have been posted on the Web Services Web site. Developed by the Web Services team, these tutorials provide step-by-step instructions for common tasks in Collage.

For now, they serve as a useful refresher for those who have attended the Web Technology Workshops for Collage and need to brush up. In the near future we hope to expand these video tutorials soon to provide more self-paced training opportunities for Collage.

New blog style

Thanks to Ryan Garcia, CI's senior Web designer, we have a new template for our blogs.

We're still making tweaks, but hope to release the template for use on official CI blogs soon.

UPDATE 2010-03-04: the new blog style is available for all Blogger blogs. Please contact the CI Web Services team at helpdesk@csuci.edu to request the template and instructions for its use.

Web Style Guide now online

by 0

You may have noticed that in August, the CI logo changed. The logo change is part of a larger project to update the University brand headed by Communication & Marketing.

Web Services has published an updated Web Style Guide to help web designers and content editors create and maintain in alignment with these brand changes. To embrace the use of the Web for communication, the Web Style Guide is published only as a Web page; this will help us keep the guide up-to-date and flexible, not to mention save paper on printing!

(FYI, the brand and identity guide for print materials is forthcoming from Communication & Marketing.)

ShortURL Service

by 0

Web Services and IT are happy to unveil a new service for all CI web content editors, content owners and designers.

The ShortURL service enables CI employees to create shortcut URLs using the domain “go.csuci.edu” to web sites that reside at CSUCI that can be used in print or in emails. These shortcuts will exist permanently but their destination can be edited by the person that created them.

To use the service, go to http://go.csuci.edu/shorturl

Just logon with your CI user name + password. It should be fairly self-explanatory as you go through it; the ShortURL Service Help document explains the system in a bit more detail.

Please let me know if you have any questions. If you experience errors with the system, please direct these to the IT Help Desk at 805-437-8552 or email helpdesk@csuci.edu

About CSUCI's web content management system

by 0

CSUCI has been using Serena Collage since 2004 as its enterprise web content management system (WCMS).

No WCMS is perfect, and in using Collage for many years we've come to understand its strengths and weaknesses. However, Serena decided to discontinue new development of the software in early 2008.

CSUCI is using this opportunity to evaluate its current use of WCMS, and (hopefully) select a product that more closely suits its needs. The project, which began during Summer 2009, will continue through the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 semesters.

The CSUCI WCMS Evaluation web site will provide updates on the project status, as well as project plans, timelines, and other relevant documentation.
